Every organization needs a clear beginning, but also an honest one. For us, the beginning was not a complicated strategy, but a lived reality: the need to find more suitable services for Matteo and, at the same time, the need not to leave other families to walk the same road alone.
Matteo Children’s Center Association grew from close relationships: family, friends, people who saw how much work, patience, and energy are needed to find appropriate support in a context where specialized services are few or difficult to access.
What "community" means to us
We do not speak about community as an abstract concept. For us, community means:
- families who can recognize one another without long explanations;
- specialists and supporters who understand that every step matters;
- partners who see the urgency and fragility of concrete situations;
- a more open public space for the stories of children and young people with rare diseases.
A community like this grows when each person can contribute something: a parent shares a useful reference point, a specialist listens beyond the medical file, a volunteer gives time, and a partner helps turn a concrete need into a response.
What we want to build together
Around Matteo Center, we want to bring closer the things families are often left to find separately:
- guidance when you do not know where to begin;
- interventions that work toward shared goals for the child;
- practical and emotional support for the family;
- activities where children and young people can build relationships and practice autonomy;
- partners who can turn a concrete need into real help.
We do not promise a path without difficulties. We promise to listen, explain clearly, and look together for steps that make sense for the child and family.

In the coming period, we want to grow the support network around the association, gather more resources for families, and create more opportunities for children, parents, and specialists to meet.
